Perhaps then, the answer is to take advantage of the blog's tagging mechanism + rss.

That is, while we could still have the arbitrary blog post, we should have an organized one that follows a regular schedule and format.

Sounds like a solution. Caveat is that I don't think WP supports such a feed generation out of the box and that a plugin would be needed.

Plenty of plugins exist to do just this, but given our track record with plugins, I'd much rather find another solution.

I'll poke around and see what I can find, reporting back with what I discover (or don't).
