Recolouring Template: Red Banner

Input from a non-graphical person:

I'm so ignorant of how colors play well together that while I can tell a difference between the first and last iterations, some of the intermediate ones look mostly similar. That said, knowing I can't instictively tell a difference, each iteration gives me a feeling of "I don't know why, but this is better some how". As such, whatever you guys are doing seems to be working, so keep it up, kudos!

I think we should go with the dirty copperish version and that it works way better than the red one, at least with the Red Banner.

My reservation is that it's Qx call in this case.

I also think the copperish tone has to be adjusted, but not sure in what way + flag colours probably need more love...

That, and a cleanup of the details like the proper placing of the template elements, checking that both sides are total summetrical and mirrored etc, and we have a wrapped up template =)

Edit: once finnished this also has to be translated somehow into the creature template for the red banner, but it shouldn't be that hard methink...

I've stepped back from "victorian" feel. Less shine, less pale colours. I've removed also a single, quite important frame element to make it look simple. Glitches followed, but it looked glitched before that as well, so anyways.

Seems a bit washed-out to me. Perhaps that just because of the coloring of the logo?

I think we should go with the one I labeled d)... so let's use that. Personally I could have also been happy with b) as well, but I find it too close to the original gaian template and want more apparent differences in the template colouring, making d) the obvious choice in this case.

So, next step is to start tweaking d) as we will keep it as the Red Banner event template. Following has to be checked:

• Colour adjustments: Something about the copper isn't quite right yet
• More colour adjusting: Probably the same about the flag that I coloured myself
• Are all elements identically placed as in the Gaian original template it is based on? Probably not.
• Are all elements symmetrical where they should be and/or mirrored? Not quite sure they are.
• Delete all excess elements that linger from Gaian template but were of no use in it.
• The Red Banner needs a new threshold symbol/element for their template. (The curved item found below the gold cost/flag container). Please check intro page for how the gaians look and how the shadowguild's look - they are distinct, and each faction should have it's own that is somehow associated with that faction. This can be resolved lastly though, after the creature template has been created.
• Once the Event template is completely finalized it can be used as a base to create the Red Banner version of the creature template.

Put more - not quite. You can remove some items though.
If anything would move in the template - you'll see it. It will stink a lot.
There's nothing missing in any templates but my latest "invention" - B
The templates need no "cleaning up" - as a part of my job they've been swept clean to start with. We may verify it by simply selecting whole card and looking at element count.

B template needs to be black on top, it makes glitches (below the logo) if it isn't black (or almost black) there. More a note for myself (and others in case of recoloring templates).

If we treat those templates well, I think we have three good pieces to start with:
C for Empire (needs overall more purplish hue, but not that much - with completely pale, garlicky inner BG)
D for Red Banner
B for Nobles maybe? (I think wood and dwarf and war machine could go together) Else - discard it.

Here's what I can answer about the checklist :

• The copper colour is off mostly because it was based of the bars around the title area, which were based on the overall colour of the card. That card was supposed to be a "Oh, this is what this would roughly look like", not become the official card.
• For version D, I'm 99% certain that nothing has moved (unless an accident happened).
  For version C, I'm 100% certain that the background at minimum have moved.

Just to be certain, I'll make a new clean version of D (and C if someone wants me to). It should be available in a few hours.

We'll use only D for the Red Banner. Reason I wrote the checklist is because we need to make sure that all on it is correct - I'm not suggesting that you "broke" it as I haven't checked.

I'm not sure we'll use C for the same reasons I'm not sure if we'll use B either: They are very similar to what is around already then. B looks much like A and C looks much like D. It could be me though, and maybe a printing of them and cards in real room light (crap, low, light) would actually make the difference between them bigger somehow even if I doubt it. The main reason for using different template colours isn't thematic, it's functional, and for them to function it should always be easy to tell them apart by colouring only.

Edit: Background will be slightly different from the one on the gaian card. I will fix one for you tomorrow and post here. Will still be based on same map though.

So it turns out that when I said a few hours, I really meant more than a day.

The file is available under my Google Drive folder as "Red Banner Card - Dirt Version 2 Clean.svg".

It is possible that something hasen't been changed. I suspect that Inkscape has a limit to the number of elements that it will let you copy/select at once, so please tell me if something hasen't changed from the gaian template.

There is a slight change : The background of the card title was a single colour instead of a gradient, so that got fixed.

There are some unused elements in the card. Most of them (if not all) can be revealed by removing the background of the card title. I didn't touch them since I don't know if it will cause problems.

Just a note, Google Drive apparently saves a backup of every revision of every file in it. These revisions can be seen by looking at the specefic file and going to File - Manage Revisions. They have been changed so that they aren't automaticly deleted after 30 days. The clean version has 8 versions, jeez.

I made a new version, I guess. I'm not really sure that this is acceptable, but I have no idea where to go from here.

Changes in this version :

• The copper is redder.

Also, the clean version was updated.

Changes in the clean version :

• The unused elements from the Gaian Template were removed.
• The gradients from previous versions were removed.
• The remaining gradients were renamed.
• The invisible, unselectable elements that were in the file were removed.
