kickstarter.com - ransom model funding site

Have you guys seen this:
http://www.kickstarter.com/discover

Is it suitable for this project?

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/131 ... t-marathon is a good example of how it works (and how I found it :)).

Seen, but US only. I myslef don't have a US bank account, nor do I plan on getting one ever.

Maybe pennomi is interested in helping out here? ;) Also how exactly would this work? What happens when/if we don't deliver? When are the money actually given to us? After release?

Naturally, I do have a US bank account, and I'd be willing to help, provided we have a solid enough sounding proposal. Alternately, it would be easy to open up a new one if needed.

The fantasy portrait marathon project is successful because FLARE is already a well-known and respected FLOSS game. This made the publicity a very easy and wide-spread thing. In addition, it's exciting for people to have a likeness of themselves applied to the project.

I'm just brainstorming ideas here, so pick and choose the points that you think will be good (as well as add your own ideas):
  • Offer some sort of incentive for donating. Example: professional prints of WTactics art (posters? t-shirts?)
  • Like the fantasy portrait marathon, offer portraits with people's likeness that will be added into the core set. Who wouldn't jump at the chance to see themselves as a merfolk/orc/elf/goblin in a CCG?
  • Allow the donator to specify what they want the art to look like or what elements they want it to include.
  • (After release of core set) Offer commercial prints of the WTactics core set (or Gaian core?). (Cards with the quality of MtG cards or other commercial CCG)

Did some research. Here's what I found out:
  • Successful Kickstarter projects offer cool rewards at different funding levels. They suggest:
Everyone loves limited editions, one-of-a-kinds, and fun experiences (parties, screenings, balloon rides!). Spend some time brainstorming your rewards and people will respond. No one needs another coffee mug.
  • Unless the project reaches its goal, no money actually changes hands.
  • The credit card company takes 3-5% of each donation and then Kickstarter takes 5% of the total funding. Since the average funding gathered is 10,000 USD (!) that would be approx. $9,000 (6856.10 Euros) to WTactics. I doubt that our project would draw so much (I think the average is pulled up by outliers in the data), but any funding would be excellent.
Also, Found out that it would probably be rather easy for me to set up an account here in the US.

I kind of like this but I'm not sure at the moment.
Happy Christmas.

I know Justin since like very long. He is also the author of few creatures we might use in the future.
Its not about using a particular money-collecting service, really, but about advertising. Justin makes fabulous job in this field, he is also good activist apart from that initiative, and I saw him in action when things went wrong.

And there is veeery too early for advertising our job yet. Too early. Maybe we could get third and later factions to be funded this way, not the second half of first one, really.

Agreed. But I suppose it is still a good thing to be thinking of funding for the future. :)
