become a character

Give our artists a picture of you or your beloved one and become a part of the game! The artist will create a nice portrait with your chosen class, clothing and equipment, making it an everlasting part of our game and the open source communities, turning it into an immortal memory.

RedSaga and Vulture serve as two examples below. Click on them and scroll to view the images in their full size and detail.

limited edition

The game will be freely available for millions of people for both download and online play as well as pro-printing. Let’s face it – you have never been given the chance to become a part of an ever expanding fantasy world. We don’t need to convince you that this is the perfect gift to yourself, or that you could surprise somebody you like by letting us create his/her portrait and be included in the game.

The opportunity to be included in the core and first set of WTactics is a one time limited offer. We have decided to only make this offer to the 20 first people that place an order. The number to the right shows you how many slots are currently available. Put in perspective to the whole internet you’d be pretty unique if you manage to grab one of them.

Once the slots are filled nobody else will be included in the core release. In the future we will continue to offer these services for coming expansions of the game, but not for the core, and not as cheap.

In addition, and as an option, you will also become immortalized by getting your name/nickname listed in our public thank you-section with a link to your personal page, and a unique ID-number associated with your piece of art, connecting the artwork to you and also showing what slot you got.

price

Since we work on this project for free, lack funding and still need to pay our artists we are forced to ask that you pay a small fee for your portrait. Please notice that whatever you give us will all end up being spent on paying the artist and the game – we don’t keep a cent of it! We are making you this offer as a means of financing our project and giving back more to the community, hoping we’ll have both your understanding and support.

To get your portrait done you only need to pay the base price of 65 USD/47 EUR. All other fees are optional and depend on your custom design. You can even end up getting a discount.

The following is what you get when paying the base price: A Human of any class you want, that will look as the person on the picture you supplied, carrying one weapon or other object of your choice, dressed in casual clothes for it’s class, depicted from the waist up, without any background. If you want something else we offer add-ons that you can order, according to the price list:

As a total replacement for all the above prices we also have a deluxe offering that might suit your needs even better: For just 120 USD you get to customize almost every aspect of the portrait – you get plenty of bang for the buck. Don’t hesitate to mail us if you have any questions.

order form

Check out all our art on the site so you get a good understanding of what you can expect and what style the art will be in.

Prepare hi-resolution and clear pictures of the person you want depicted. Preferably at least one of the photos has a “Mona Lisa” head rotation (3/4) and is in balanced low contrast light, without a too raised/lowered camera. Additional photos from other angles could be of great help. Make sure most of the photos are without glasses or hats e.tc. – our artist(s) need a clear view of the face and head. Also make sure they are JPG or another standard format and that you have the rightful copyright.  If the files are too huge you should re-save them as JPG or give us direct URL:s to them instead of  uploading them to us. If you ordered some advanced stuff we need photo-references, that gives the artist an idea of what you want to be done.

agreement

  • By making an order you have accepted the information on this domain, this specific page and the agreement, unmodified and in it’s entirety.
  • An order is considered to have been made when you have a) sent us a properly filled order form b) we have acknowledged and agreed on the details of your portrait in a mail conversation that we will initiate after we have received your order form c) you have paid for the art and d) we send you a confirmation that we have received the payment.
  • All orders are binding. Due to work load and the nature of our project and us making the artist work, we don’t make any refunds unless they are explicitly granted by a paragraph in this agreement.
  • An order is considered to have been completed when we have e-mailed you a download link to your portrait.
  • We at WTactics agree on not using any of your payment as a profit: The money you give us for your portrait will primarily be used as payment for your portrait. In case there’s any surplus it will be used exclusively as payment for future artwork for WTactics, the projects website, hosting server cost(s) or other unforeseen and unavoidable project related expenditures.
  • We will host the image on a publicly available VCS/FTP/website(s) or similar publicly available electronic service free of cost to the public as we do with the rest of our game, honoring our open source license(s) and sharing the work with the world. Please notice that updates of our image storage solution may take a while, but that it will get priority and will be made as fast as we possibly can.
  • The work will be released under the GPL2 or later license(s). WTactics also has the exclusive right to re-license it using other and strictly open source license(s) if it is deemed necessary by the project founder. The GPL2 is a very liberal license and you will not be granted any other license by making an order. You will also not be able to re-license the work yourself beyond the scope of the GPL2 or later. The GPL2 does however allow you to pretty much anything with your portrait, including selling it, as long as you act according to the GPL.
  • You are responsible for supplying us with proper photographs of the person you want depicted.
  • You are the rightful copyright holder of the photographs you send us or have the written permission from the copyright holder to supply us with them. You are not under any circumstance allowed to send us a any type of material that violate any copyright(s).
  • If you order and pay for the privilege to name the card that will use your artwork in the game you will supply us with a list of several different name suggestions. We have the right to choose one of them suggestions. We at WTactics may also ask you to come with additional suggestions if we find the first ones inadequate. If both parties can’t agree on the naming you will get a refund on of the money you paid for the naming.
  • In the unlikely event we don’t mail you a download link within 6 weeks from the time your order was made there is a refund policy where you will get all your money back if and only if you supply us with your PayPal.
  • What we offer is a privilege: We have the reserved right to refuse or cancel an ongoing order without having to explain ourselves. In such a rare event you would have the right to a full refund and get all your money back if and only if you supply us with your PayPal.
  • We have already been around for over two years and have all intentions of working on the game until it is released, and also maintain it so it can get a healthy future. Although those are our intentions, we can not foresee the future and therefore can not guarantee that we will succeed. Should we fail with releasing this game then your portrait will obviously not be a part of the game since the project would have shut down. In such a very remote case the artwork would however still be available to the world using the open source license(s) we used for the game and you would of course still have your copy of it.
  • Although we rely on our artist’s skills and his/her judgement and professionalism, we can’t be held responsible ethically or monetary for an end result you wouldn’t be satisfied with. Aesthetics is an subjective phenomenon and we can’t guarantee that you will like the end result or find it resembling enough for your own taste.
  • You understand and agree that we offer this service “as is”.

  1. Dear developers: Is there any reason to license the multimedia assets as GPL instead of, for example, Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike? With GPL, the assets can only be used for games, not for other usages such as comics and such.

  2. Hola Carlos!

Our artwork can be used for anything you want even though it is licensed by us using the GPL2 and later-license. The license doesn’t regulate in what way or what media you use our stuff – it is totally up to you, as long as whatever you create is also available under the identical GPL-license.

That means that it is perfectly fine to use the art for comics or whatever. We’d be happy if you used them. :)

Please contact me at snowdrop at wtactics dot org if you have any further inquiries about our licensing or need help with anything. Should you use them we’d appreciate if you link back to us and notify us (although that is not required by us or the license).
